The Book

Jump Commander is the story of my grandfather's journey through WWII. I began interviewing him back in 2001, thinking that someday I would write down his amazing story and make it available to the world. Although he didn't live to see it, I think he would be happy with the outcome.

The Blog

The Jump Commander website is also a blog that explores the people and events of the 82nd Airborne Division in WWII. There are so many unknown or little known stories about the amazing men that filled the division and we try to bring some of them to life here.

We will also share tidbits via Twitter and will then expand on them in the blog. Please take part in discussions or just read what other have written.

Written by Col. Mark Alexander's grandson based on hundreds of hours of interviews, this book builds a vivid portrait of an uncommon sort of man. Competitive, agressive, and yet very much concerned with the welfare of the troops he led into battle, Col. Mark Alexander is exactly the sort of leader you'd want to follow if you had to visit hell or Normandy on D-day. This heroic story and that of the men he led during WWII is an inspiring, instructive, and gripping story. It was exactly the right reading for my Memorial Day.
